Heart Disease — The world's #1 killer

Ischaemic heart disease has been the leading cause of death globally for the past two decades — and it is overwhelmingly a disease of diet. Countries with whole-food, plant-forward eating patterns consistently show 50–80% lower CVD mortality than their high-meat, high-processed-food counterparts.

The Cause

Saturated fat from animal products raises LDL cholesterol. Processed meats add sodium and nitrites. Refined carbs and sugars drive insulin resistance and arterial inflammation. Plant fiber, polyphenols, and unsaturated fats do the opposite — lowering LDL, blood pressure, and inflammatory markers simultaneously.

What You Can Do

  • Eat beans, lentils or chickpeas daily — soluble fiber lowers LDL.
  • Replace red and processed meat with plant proteins.
  • Use extra-virgin olive oil as your main cooking fat.
  • Eat 5+ servings of vegetables and fruit per day.
  • Walk 30+ minutes daily — the cheapest CVD intervention.
Bottom line

"Coronary heart disease never need exist, and if it does exist, it need never progress." — Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Cleveland Clinic
